| While traveling in Italy in 2003, I was immediately intrigued by the ever present sight of rainbow flags. Rainbow flags with the word PACE (Peace) hanging from balconies in every neighborhood and town. From the large metropolitan city of Rome, to the old fashioned province of Avellino outside of Naples -- the colorful message of Peace waved to Italian citizens and visitors. | Your Comments To contribute your thoughts WRISTBANDS

| Flags hung from churches, apartments, businesses, small shops and vendors in the piazzas. I asked about the flags and was told they have been used for many years to raise consciousness among the population for a variety of “causes”. | ||||

During the next two weeks of our visit, I searched throughout many of the shops for a “PACE” flag to hang from the our balcony at home! But try as I might to track down a flag at shops, vendor carts, museums, etc., not a flag to be found… I started photographing the balconies with their message of PEACE. | |||
| Finally, the night before I was to return home to the “city by the Bay”, while searching for a final gelato at Piazza Narvone, I spotted a vendor cart with the illusive, sought after PACE flag. | ||||
| When I returned home I began to research the origin of the “PACE“ flag. This rainbow “PACE” flag floated in my consciousness for the next year. On Christmas morning 2004 I had a dream in which I created rainbow “wristbands” and the website peacediversity.org -- a website which would be an educational site about Peace and Diversity and how interconnected these two concepts and lived realities are to truly bring PEACE to our world. I immediately went online and secured the websites peacediversity.org and peacediversity.com and thus this website was born. | ||||
| It is my intention to sell peace/diversity wristbands through my not-for-profit organization and use the funds generated to award monetary grants to other not-for-profit organizations who are trying to promote peace and diversity through education, processes and experiences that will help the human family live together in a more peace –filled way. | ||||
| It is my hope and vision that there will be folks of all ages wearing peace/diversity wristbands and that peace/diversity flags will be flying from balconies, porches, rooftops, flagpoles, churches, synagogues, mosques, as reminders to each of us individually and collectively to reflect and strategize on how we can live more peacefully in our homes, our neighborhoods, our countries and our world, our global village. | ||||
